Airplane yoga & Travel yoga

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

Thankfully we are in the summer travel season.  It can be so exciting to see new places, family and friends.  But a lot of times, our self care for the body isn’t as attentive when we travel.  So I’ve included 2 great videos, with easy examples of stretches and yoga postures that can help your body feel open. These yoga postures can help keep you physically and energetically balanced.  This balance can help you enjoy your trip more fully.

This first yoga video is meant for in-flight & layover relief. You can also apply these stretches during car travel:

This second yoga video is meant for when you are at destination.  It helps with the transition from air to ground:

Another great idea is to schedule an infrared sauna and/or massage session before and after your trip.  This helps to ensure your body is open, relaxed and ready to soak up the experience of your travels.  Feel free to call me to set up those sessions! Click here to contact me.

Safe traveling and “Bon Voyage”!

Uplifting Your Mindset

Affirming the possibilities!
Affirming the possibilities!

At present, I’m reading some of Catherine Ponder’s work.  She’s most well known for her books on abundance and her bestselling book The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity.  Yesterday, one of her passages really moved me.  She was speaking about how we are ALL effected by bouts of doubt, depression, and low energy.  But we can UPLIFT OUR MINDSET and change these moods more quickly if we employ these 2 exercises in our minds:

1) Strength
2) Affirmation

Uplifting our mindset is the constant practice to allow our thoughts to motivate us, support us, & encourage us; instead of dragging us down, keeping us in fear or worry, and feeling bad.  Now we all go thru varying shades of our down times, and they are part of life.  But they do not have to be permanent fixtures.  They are like beautiful challenges for us to GROW, CHANGE, and become our BIGGER selves.  It’s like the constant blessing of evolving ourselves for the better.

Let’s take a closer look at these 2 Mind Uplifting Exercises:
1) Strength–is the the inner desire/motivation to want to feel better.  It is the MENTAL STRENGTH, not physical that will help bring us upward.  We can start with gratitude in our hearts for the moment, our breath, our heartbeat. Start with simple statements of what we are blessed with.  This will help build the strength quickly.

2) Affirmation–is a declaration of the Truth of what you want to experience in your life.  You can mentally affirm or vocally affirm the conditions you would like to experience .  If you would like to experience more Joy, then think joyful thoughts, speak joyful words, move in a joyful way.  Again, start simple and small then work your way into being the MOST JOYFUL person around.  It all starts with the seed of thought. Then our actions will follow, then the results in our life.

These are daily practices, just as life itself.  But the more we focus on uplifting our minds with inner strength and mental/vocal affirmation, the more we live our fulfilling lives.  Blessings to you and yours, may your life be filled the MOST UPLIFTING MINDSET YET!

Love for our Mothers!

Mother…

My Mom "Love Incarnate"

My Mom "Love Incarnate"

a word that can never fully encompass the magnitude of this beautiful person in our life.  She begins as the source of our being, who we depend upon for comfort, food and unconditional love.  She is a teacher of so much: manners, kindness, compassion, and intelligence.  She is the woman who encourages us and inspires us to be more than we ever imagined we could be.  She is tireless, effervescent, and love incarnate.  For this week, that builds into the culmination of Mother’s Day, may we each give a special daily gratitude for our mothers. Also, feel free to purchase  our Mother’s Day Special “Treatment for a Queen” for your mom.  It will be a truly memorable gift!

To my dearest mom, Flora. You are  my light, my guide, my forever soul nurturer.  Thank you Mom for your unceasing love and support.  You have filled my life with heaven.  You are forever cherished, honored and adored.  With all my heart and soul, “Te amo siempre”!

Day 14: Hooray you made it!!

Sunday, March 28th, 2010
Congratulations!!

Congratulations!!

Welcome to day 14 of the 14 day Spring Jump-start cleanse! Everyone did wonderful! For most of our participants, there were definitely challenging days.  But all of them pulled through and are feeling amazing.  We were able to detoxify our bodies, choose “life-giving” foods, and clear out mental baggage.  Here are some results from some of our participants:

  1. Client 1-Had been suffering from headaches and not being able to sleep well.  In just 7 days of the cleanse, she was sleeping better and did NOT have to take any medication for headaches since she started the cleanse. When previously she has been taking a pain reliever at least once a day.  She also cleared out her pantry of all high fructose corn syrups. Way to Go!
  2. Client 2- Is drinking at least 64 ounces of pure water a day! Yeah!  Hydration can not be emphasized enough.  Without the proper amount of water a day, our bodies can not function at their most optimal levels.  Her skin is glowing and her face is more defined.
  3. Client 3- Went from “caffeine junky” drinking a pot of coffee a day to NO COFFEE during the 14 day cleanse. That is fantastic! He did go through some tough headaches and withdrawal the first couple of days.  But this is going to make a HUGE difference in his life and health.

We are soo proud of you all!! Let’s continue to stay consistent with our health practice by choosing the RIGHT foods at least 90% of the time.  The other 10% give yourself some lee-way. Your body will let you know what it needs.  Continue to take your Daily 6 essential supplements: Daily, Vital (anti-oxidant), Vitamin D, Calcium (liquid soluble), Flax Seed Oil, & Evening Primrose Oil.  Feel free to click here to purchase your Daily 6 supplements. And drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water a day.

Please share with me your thoughts and helpful practices!

Part 2: “Good Fat” Supplements

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

A couple days ago, we discussed how we can get good fat~Omega 3, 6 & 9s from different foods.  Today, we’ll look at some of my favorite “good fat” supplements that also provide these essential fatty acids.  The 2 that I take every day are: Flax Seed Oil and Evening Primrose Oil.

These 2 supplements are in a gel capsule that easily breaks down in the body.  Flax seed contains all 3 Omegas: 3, 6, & 9s.  Omega 9 oil has been associated with lower rates of breast cancer and heart disease.  Flax Seed oil also contains twice the amount of Omega 3s found in fish oils.

Here are some more benefits to taking Flax Seed Oil:

  • Increases metabolic rate
  • Reduced effects of harmful fatty acids
  • Increase in energy
  • Increase in stamina and muscle fatigue recovery
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Decrease in water retention
  • Improvement in PMS and arthritis symptoms
  • Assists in oxygen transfer from the lungs to the blood & tissues

With the help of Evening Primrose Oil (source of Omega 6 fatty acids), we can complete the daily regimen of consuming all 3 Omegas.  The Evening Primrose oil is extracted from the Evening Primrose plant, a wildflower found in North America, Europe and parts of Asia.  The seeds bear the essential fatty oil that is used in healing today.  The Native Americans used this plant and its root to treat: hemorrhoids, stomachaches, sore throat and bruises.

These are other benefits of Evening Primrose Oil:

  • Source of Omega 6 fatty acids
  • Lowered weight without dieting
  • Lowered blood cholesterol
  • Lowered blood pressure
  • Improved eczema
  • Improved rheumatoid arthritis
  • Relieved premenstrual pain
  • Improved acne when taken with zinc
  • Improved behavior of hyperactive children
  • Improved fingernail and hair growth

The lists of benefits of these good fats are so impressive.  By incorporating the Flax Seed Oil and Evening Primrose Oil supplements, our bodies can easily use them for our greater benefit.  These 2 oils are an essential part of every one’s healthy daily routine.   If you need these quality supplements, please contact me because we carry both of them in the M’lis product line or click here to purchase them from our store.  So go ahead have your good fats today!

Day 12 of Cleanse: Rounding the Bend

Fat has a bad rap.  Many people have been brainwashed to think that a “low-fat”

Avocado

Avocado

diet is the way to stay healthy.  Well, that can be very misleading.  What we need to concentrate on is GOOD FAT.  Good fats are also known as unsaturated fats (they stay liquid at room temperature).  And the HEALTHIEST of these fats is called monosaturated fats which come from some seafoods, avocados, nuts, olive oil and more. Fat is beneficial to our body because it provides energy for the body & keeps the body warm.

In a healthy meal, this is what we recommend in caloric breakdown:

  • 60% from GOOD Carbohydrates
  • 25% from GOOD FAT
  • 15% from GOOD Protein

Good fats can come from food & they can come from quality supplements.  We are fans of Omegas 3, 6 & 9, essential fatty acids (EFAs).  These essential fatty acids are the building blocks of your cell membranes and they bring immediate energy for the heart, muscles and other organs.

Here’s a quick food guide for Omegas 3, 6, & 9s EFAs:

Omega 3

  • Flaxseed oil
  • Salmon, herring, sardines, mackerel
  • Hemp oil & hemp heart
  • Walnuts, soybeans
  • Dark leafy green vegetables
  • Raw pumpkin seeds
  • Whole grains

Omega 6

  • Evening Primrose Oil
  • Borage oil & Black currant oil
  • Raw nuts and seeds
  • Lentils & legumes
  • Lean meats–eggs
  • Unrefined vegetable oils

Omega 9

  • Olives
  • Almonds
  • Macadamias, hazelnuts
  • Avocados
  • Flaxseed
  • Pressed oils from these foods, ie: Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Did you like any foods on these lists? Yes, of course.  Feel free to incorporate these into your diet for healthy consumption of good fat. Our bodies need it.  Tomorrow, we’ll discuss which supplements are the BEST for providing these important EFAs.

Gradual reintroduction of foods

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Day 11: Feeling good adding back in foods

Today, I’m feeling great eating some tabouli & fresh Emerald Kale from Earthfare. And of course drinking lots of distilled water.  Here are some thoughts & the importance of gradual reintroduction of foods after a liquid cleanse.

Normally, after our liquid days the 1st day we focus on eating fresh fruits & veggies and their juices. This eases our bodies back into solid foods. We just spent a minimum of 3 days on liquid, so putting anything too heavy on the digestive system would be harmful even painful to the body.  After 5 days of liquid, I actually ate an apple and my tummy was  churning a bit.  So I laid down awhile and continued to drink water.  It was just my body’s way of saying, “hey, slow down, take it easy.”  So the rest of the day, I continued with fresh fruit & veggie juices.

Then the next day, we add back in whole grains.  Then the following day we add back in lean proteins (chicken, fish, eggs), yogurt and steamed veggies.  Then a couple days after that we can add back in nuts and seeds.  This all is a good rule of thumb to keep us from bombarding the system too fast.  Your body will tell you loud and clear what it needs & when you need to stop.  It’s a great exercise in body awareness.  Make sure you’re being attentive to your needs and following thru on what your body wisdom is sharing.

Why Detoxify?

Day 7: Why do we need to detoxify our bodies?1268254_79022238

Today we are on are 3rd liquid “Detox” day.  I’m feeling energetic and peaceful.  These liquid days are so powerful because they allow our bodies a rest from heavy digestion.  Instead of our bodies needing to break down food, it has time & energy to repair, heal, and rejuvenate other parts of our body.   Also, we are internally cleansing our liver, gall bladder, small intestines, kidneys, spleen, pancreas, colon, blood and lymph.   This all equals a healthier, better functioning body.

And here’s even more reasons why detoxification is wonderful for your body.

Benefits of Detoxification:

  • It is estimated that 95% of all degenerative disease begins in the colon. Detoxification is a way to lessen the symptoms of and prevent disease.
  • All organs and systems of the body are cleansed and allowed to rejuvenate.
  • The immune system is strengthened.
  • Energy and mental clarity are increased.
  • Dependencies on sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine are reduced.
  • Bad eating habits are broken
  • 3-8 lbs. of water and waste are lost
  • The body s natural tract is restored
  • Detoxification is the core of the M’lis line of products and the foundation of every Lifestyle Change Program that we offer.

For a person in good basic health, detoxification on a regular basis will help prevent illness and degenerative disease. For those with health problems, detoxification will allow the body to heal, naturally and without continuing the cycle of chemical stuffing of symptoms.

Creating room for more good

hotairballoonDay 4 of the Wellness Cleanse: Creating room for more Good!

The past 2 days I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster more than anything else. Almost like I couldn’t get comfortable in my mind or body.  But today is a different story, I FEEL FREE!! I guess we have to shed that which isn’t serving us, in order to make more room for the good in our lives.  Hence the purpose of cleansing.

A friend reminded me that as we make more room anywhere in our lives, something wonderful would replace it.  She took the simple example of clearing out her closets & drawers of everything she didn’t use or need any longer.  She expressed how it felt physically once she released those things: she felt lighter and could think more clearly.  So whether we’re cleaning our bodies or our closets our whole demeanor can changeWe can feel more free, we can feel more energy to follow our passions, we can create more, we can relax more, and we can BE MORE!!

What exciting possibilities lay before us as we clear away the things that were holding us back, and we didn’t even realize it.  This is a beautiful shift for us to remember & embody.
